2021 Lowy Institute Media Lecture - Yalda Hakim
Each year, the Lowy Institute asks a prominent figure connected with the media and the world to deliver the Lowy Institute Media Lecture. Previous Lecturers have included ABC chair Ita Buttrose, global chief executive of News Corporation Robert Thomson, US journalists Susan Glasser and Bret Stephens, and the then-Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull. The Lecture is hosted alongside the annual Lowy Institute Media Award.

Now in its ninth year, the 2021 Lowy Institute Media Lecture will be delivered by Australian journalist, international correspondent, broadcaster, presenter and documentary maker Yalda Hakim. Ms Hakim grew up in Australia, where her family had sought refuge after fleeing the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Currently a prominent presenter on BBC World Television, Yalda started her journalistic career at SBS News in Sydney as a cadet, rising to become a reporter and presenter on its international affairs program Dateline.

As well as pursuing a career in international journalism which has seen her report on events from the United States to political turmoil in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa, she has established a charitable foundation which supports women in Afghanistan to access education and university studies.

Join us on Monday 18 October at 12:00pm as Yalda Hakim delivers the 2021 Lowy Institute Media Lecture, as part of a weeklong series culminating in the announcement of the winner of the 2021 Lowy Institute Media Award on Friday 22 October.
